The Grand Palais

March 6th, 2012

The nef (or nave) of the Grand Palais is worth a visit regardless of whether the exhibit of the moment tempts you (and it’s only open when there’s an exhibit).  It was built for the Universal Exposition of 1900 but, unlike the Eiffel Tower, it was planned to be permanent.  It was sorely in need of repairs and was closed for many years but reopened for special exhibits in 2005.  Wonderful architectural details in the best Art Nouveau and Art Deco tradition.
