European Heritage Days

September 12th, 2013

This weekend is European Heritage Days (or Les Journées européenes du Patrimoine or JEP).  With its focus on cultural heritage important sites (many not otherwise open to the public) will be open on September 14 and 15.  If you want to visit the Elysée Palace be prepared for a long wait.  But there are many lesser known sites that are more easily accessed.  Most events/sites are free – like a concert by the Orchestre de Paris at the Salle Pleyel on Sunday or a marathon of organ concerts in various churches (5 concerts stretched out on Saturday around Paris).  Some visits require advance reservations so it’s best to do a bit of research beforehand.  You can (finally as of today) pick up a print copy of the program at any of the 20 city halls in Paris including the Hotel de Ville, at the Ministère de la Culture, 182 rue Saint-Honoré or find complete information here (sorry, it’s only in French).
