November Music in Paris

November 11th, 2013

The Paris music season is in full swing now (theatre too) and two things are clear – there’s something for everyone and there aren’t enough nights to hear all concerts that I’d like to go to!

In my agenda are the  Buena Vista Social Club Orchestra and William Christie’s Les Arts Florissants Music for Queen Caroline (Handel) at Salle Pleyel for starters, then some theatre – Robert Wilson’s The Old Woman with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Willem Dafoe at Theatre de la Ville as part of the Festival d’Automne (in French and Russian with French subtitles).  I will unfortunately miss the wonderful Cuban jazz pianist Roberto Fonseca later this month at the Bouffes du Nord (a venue worth the trip itself!), Bellini’s Norma in concert version and Fauré’s Requium at the Theatre des Champs Elysées (a beautiful art deco hall) and Elektra and Aida at the Opera Bastille and Cosi Fan Tutte at the Opera Garnier.  And for fans of rock/pop/folk Motorhead, Suede, Gogol Bordello and Lily Wood and the Prick will all be appearing this month at various venues around the city.

Since I missed an October music review I wasn’t able to tell you that you missed The Marriage of Figaro in concert, Asaf Avidan (an Israeli pop/rock singer), Adam Laloum at Salle Gaveau (a young classical French pianist making a name for himself) and Joshua Redman (jazz) for a partial list!

If you’re coming to Paris in the coming months and would like to attend a concert I’d be happy to help you find something that would appeal to your musical tastes!
