Racine (the author) par la racine – a play in French

November 25th, 2013

If you understand French and if you can identify Jean Racine and/or Pierre Corneille as French writers from a bygone century you’ll love this play, regardless of whether you love or hate their works!  And if you’re French this will take you back to your days as a lycéen!  Racine par la racine was created a few years ago for the Festival d’Avignon and was a hit at the Festival Avignon Off this year.  It’s been remounted by the Théâtre Essaïon, just behind the Centre Pompidou.  The vignettes are well crafted – some are updated, modern tongue-in-cheek takes and sidesplittingly funny, others are played as straight drama and are very moving.

Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 6 pm.  Running only through December 3rd so hurry!

Théâtre Essaïon, 6 rue Pierre du Lard, 4th

You can reserve online at their site by clicking here (pick tickets up and pay before the performance).  Tickets 20 euros, 15 euros for seniors, students, under 26 ….
