Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera at the Orangerie

December 16th, 2013

The Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, L’Art en Fusion exhibit runs until January 13, 2014 at the Musée de l’Orangerie in the Tuilerie Gardens.  It’s a must see in my book!  It’s a powerful show, an especially intimate look at Frida Kahlo and her art.  Seeing her work and that of Rivera side-by-side is fascinating.  It’s not an enormous show so, despite the crowds, one can take the time to savor it.  And while there, don’t miss a visit to Monet’s water lilies on the main floor.  It’s always a delight to visit these 8 enormous canvases in the two oval rooms that have housed them since Monet gave them to the state.  And the day I went the crowds were all at the Kahlo Rivera exhibit so I almost had the water lilies to myself!

That’s the good news.  The bad news is that all the advance sale tickets are gone so there’s no way to avoid waiting in line to get in.  So go early in the day or try one of the several nocturnes (until 9:45, last entry 9:00 pm) that have been added.  Daily, except Tuesday, 9 – 6 (last entry 5:15).  Nocturnes December 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, January 2, 3, 4, 2014 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday).
