Summer metro closures tourists should know about

July 28th, 2014

Visiting Paris this summer? Going to the Eiffel Tower?  Or Versailles?  Sections of metro line 6 and RER C are closed for renovation this summer so a bit of advance planning will make your visit easier!

Line 6 is closed between the stations Montparnasse-Bienvenue and Trocadero (which includes Bir Hakeim,  closest to the Eiffel Tower).  However, stations La Motte-Piquet/Grenelle and Ecole Militaire (line 8) are alternatives (they’re a bit farther away but not too far) as are stations Alma-Marceau and Iéna (line 9), just across the Seine. Scheduled reopening – August 30th.

The RER C, which serves the Eiffel Tower as well as Versailles, also has a section closed (between Gare d’Austerlitz and Invalides).  Service has been replaced by a bus, Bus Castor.  Just follow the Bus Castor footprints in the affected stations to find the bus!  This section of the RER C is supposed to reopen on August 21.
