Elysée Palace Gardens – Open This Sunday

July 31st, 2014

Rarely open to visitors in the past , now open the first Sunday of the month (August 3)!  For those who don’t know, the Elysée Palace is the home of the French president so this is like visiting the White House gardens but à la française!  Because it’s not just any park, being so closely associated with the French government, you’re expected to be ‘appropriately dressed’ (my interpretation is that this means no bathing suits, probably no cutoff short shorts, guys should keep their shirts on, maybe no flip-flops).  But it’s a small price to pay  for this opportunity, right?  It’s not likely that you’ll see French president François Hollande strolling about but hey, who knows?

Entrance is via ‘la grille du Coq’ (rooster’s gate), avenue Gabriel, Paris 8th.  Metro: Champs-Elysées/Clemenceau (line 1).  Summer hours – 11- 7, winter hours 10-5.
