Christmas (tree) aftermath

March 8th, 2016

Christmas 2015 is long since over but thinking of Christmas in Paris this year?   If you celebrate with a live tree what to do with your dead Christmas tree in Paris?  Certainly don’t leave it on the sidewalk in front of your building (it creates a real headache for the garbage collectors plus there’s a 65 euro fine).  But happily the city sets up collection points around Paris for tree disposal.  It’s been fun to watch the parade of trees to the one near me – and to see what folks dreamed up to transport a really awkward item (from stuffing it – sort of – in a grocery caddy to balancing it on their bike to putting it on a skateboard – wish I’d taken photos).  The statistics are impressive – 69,000 trees were recycled this year at 141 parks and gardens, a 30% increase from last year.  And that generated 1200 cubic meters of mulch!
