Fête de la musique June 21st

The 31st annual Fête de la musique (Festival of Music) will take place all over France this Thursday, June 21st.  Started under President Mitterand, it’s a day that features free music of all genres – from professionals in concert halls to amateur groups on street corners, in cafes, etc.  Really something for everyone.  And of course, Paris is particularly blessed with options. A couple of possible: Music in the Nef of the Grand Palais under Daniel Buren’s installation of colored circles.  Music by Jamie XX, Caribou


Monumenta 2012-Daniel Buren

Daniel Buren, the artist of honor for the 5th annual Monumenta in the Nef of the Grand Palais.  Colored circles or translucent plastic create a ‘roof’ under which the public can play.  Whimsical, lighthearted and still time to experience it.  It runs through Thursday, June 21st.  An annual event since 2007, Buren is aFrench artist, internationally known most recently for large installation pieces.  Thursday, which is also the Fête de la musique, there’s a special event with music by Jamie XX, Caribou and Four Tet.
