A train station?

Really?  This bench is, well, a train stop (l’Isthme) if not a station. It’s my favorite stop that the Tire-Bouchon, a summer only train (July & August, daily; weekends in June & September), that links Auray to Quiberon in Brittany.  When I took it 15 or so years ago the seats were barely padded wooden benches.  But last week I found that it’s been modernized – but still fun.  And it allows you to visit the Quiberon peninsula without having to rent a car.  Auray is


New Year’s Eve Paris – Free Transportation

If you’re spending this New Year’s Eve in Paris here’s some good news – public transportation (metro, RER, buses) will be free from 5pm on December 31 until noon on January 1.  In addition, certain metro and RER lines will run all night (instead of closing by 2am on holiday nights).   Included are metro lines 1, 2, 4, 6, 9 and 14 as well as RER A and B.  Note:  Not all stations on these lines will be open so you may need to walk


Metro Line 4 Has a New Terminus!

Metro Line 4 has a new southern terminus.  Since March 23rd Porte d’Orléans  has been replaced by Mairie de Montrouge on the signage in the metro to mark the opening of the additional stop!  I’ve seen quite a few tourists with confused looks on their faces – their maps and guide books (unfortunately) don’t reflect the change!  Avoid confusion – note this on your maps!  And if you have time take line 4 to the end and check out the new station!


Versailles Train Decor To Get You In The Mood!

The SNCF has been upgrading the decor on the RER C trains which run through Paris to Versailles!  Started last this spring, by the end of 2012 about 25% of the trains will sport images of the walls from certain rooms in the chateau.  Just a little something to get you in the spirit of your visit!  And with this, you can add ambiance to inexpensive and easy on the list of reasons why should use the RER C for your next Versailles excursion!
